Who we are
In Greek mythology, Gaia, (gay-ə or gah-yə) from Ancient Greek was the personification of the Earth and one of the Greek primordial deities. Gaia was the great mother of all: the primal Greek Mother Goddess, creator and giver of birth to the Earth and all the Universe.
In Vedic Sanskrit, Yoga (from the root yuj) means "to add", "to join", "to unite". There are very many compound words containing yoga in Sanskrit. Yoga can take on meanings such as "connection", "contact", or "union".
Shala is a Sanskrit word meaning, "home", "abode". A Yoga Shala is a "home of yoga". It is a gathering place for students to practice, share, experience and grow.
Gaia Yogashala aims to be a space of rest, peace and growth, and a return to more natural ways of living – a space that allows us to come closer to Nature. A space which allows us to come back home to our own true nature, to our Selves.
About the Yoga School
We started as a Yoga Centre with a beautiful community of voluneers, students and teachers offering various classes, energetic journeys and mind expansive workshops. We have since decided to focus our energy on offering a comprehensive Alignment Yoga Teacher Training to set off deep transformations in our students' lives and practical experience of yoga. We have our trainings thrice a year, with our teachers deepening their understanding & approach of yoga by being part of intensive courses in the times between trainings.
Nestled in the lush greens and tranquility of Pranayama Garden, we are located just a few hundred meters off the pristine waters of the Gulf of Thailand on the magical island of Koh Phangan.
